February Postcard
This month brought a burst of inspiration as I spent time at the Mid‑Atlantic Quilt Show in Hampton. I took a workshop with Cynthia England and learned her unique freezer‑paper, “not foundation paper,” piecing technique — a method that challenged the way I usually approach precision and opened up new possibilities for design. Her process puts the freezer paper on top of the block making it easier to see that your fabric is placed correctly. It is also so forgiving and embeds easy fixes for imprecise stitch lines. You can put away that stitch ripper!
I also joined the Charlottesville Area Quilt Guild for a workshop led by Linda Boone, where we explored freezer‑paper foundation piecing using the Atomic Starburst pattern. It was energizing to be in a room full of makers, each of us working through the same pattern in our own way. I left with fresh ideas and a renewed excitement for experimenting with color and structure.
As these projects continue to unfold, I’m carrying the momentum back into my studio — one stitch, one shape, one new idea at a time.
